SQL Server 2012 stops running after setup files are copied.

SQL Server 2012 setup stops running after setup files are copied.

I've experiencing the same issue on two different machines. Both are 64 bit running Server 2008.

On both of them I tried installing using the files from the ISO. I initially used winzip to extract the files. The setup was running fine, but the SQL Server engine had an error when it installed. Then using the Add/Remove programs i uninstalled all of the SQL Server 2012 applications, including the setup files.

Now when i try to install using the "New SQL Server stand-alone..." wizard it will copy the setup files and then the wizard never comes back. I've tried mounting the ISO, extracting with winrar, Burning the ISO to a dvd and downloading the 3 files. I also tried mounting ISO of the version that was just recently released. I run into the same issue with all of them.

Thanks for the help.

Sql Server 2008 R2 Web setup throws application error when starting FixSqlRegistryKey_x86.exe

I have Windows 7 64bit. I had Sql Server 2008 R2 Express installed. I unistalled it and then I tried to install Sql Server 2008 R2 Web. Unfortunatelly on the Setup Support Rules page for 'Consistency validation for SQL Server registry keys' I got 'Failed'. I spent half of a day trying to solve it, but then I assumed that there must be realy something wrong with registry keys and it will be faster just to reinstall Windows.

After formatting the disk and reinstalling Windows 7, rebooting dozen of times I installed all Windows upadtes as well. I also did install some programs like Skype, Thundirbird etc. which has no influence on Sql Server setup.

And then I tried again to install Sql Server 2008 R2 Web. And again an error. A bit different one. Now when the setup is on the Setup Support Rules page I get an error message box with the title"FixSqlRegistryKey_x86 - Application Error" and content: The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application. 'Consistency validation for SQL Server registry keys' gets 'Failed' status as well.

My team mate has exactly the same machine as mine. He had no problem with installation (he didnt even need to reinstall Windows).

I run the setup as administrator, from a local folder. I even tried to use the setup files copied from my team mate, for a case if my copy is corrupted. In the setup options I have chosen the 'x64' version.

The log says the following:

Sql Server 2005 Developer Edition Installation Failure

OS:  Windows XP Pro SP3 (32 bit install)

Processor:  AMD 3500+ (64 bit)

Everytime I paste the log into the message, the forum explodes on me.  The salient part of the log, I believe is

"This package is not supported on this operating system"

I'm thinking it could be due to me using 32bit but being capable of 64bit or that Sql doesn't like the AMD 3500+.

Any ideas on this?

Stumped - how do you install SQL Profiler?

$

Hi everyone

I've just installed SQL 2008 Express (I installed the express edition because I need support for user instances).

Now I want to install SQL Profiler. I understand it doesn't come with SQL Express, so I've got the DVD for SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition. The problem is that whether I choose "New SQL Installation" or "Add Features to Existing Installation", there's no option to install SQL Profiler. The only client tools that appear in the installation screen are:
- Business Intelligence Development Studio
- Management Tools - Basic
- SQL Client Connectivity SDK.

SQL Profiler's got to be in there somewhere... tearing my hair out!

Thanks

Joe

Transaction Response Timeout post SP2 Upgrade

Hi All,

We have recently upgraded our production environment which was in 2008 R2 SP1 to SP2.
We seem to face a peculiar issue since then. The service gets stopped intermittently but on a daily basis and the errors are like below,

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the MSSQLSERVER service.

On looking into the error logs we found there was the exception c0000005 mentioned as in the KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972936.

The fix was covered in SP1 CU10 as mentioned in the link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2783135.

We are clueless regarding how to proceed with the issue as we are already in SP2. Has anyone faced similar issues. What workaround can we adopt.

SQLEXPRESS not accepting "IIS AppPool/DefaultAppPool" as valid LogIn

Im trying to create a new login on my local instance of Sql Server 2008 Express(SQLEXPRESS) for IIS 7.5 worker process to use for database access to a custom database.

I type in "IIS AppPool\DefaultAppPool" in the "SELECT USER OR GROUP" dialog then click on "Check name" and it transforms the name to an underlined "DefaultAppPool". Then I click "Ok" and it says "User or Group was not found".  Am I using the right name for an IIS 7.5 worker process account? Please help. Thanks.

I am trying to install SQL Server 2008 Client tools on a machine that currently has Visual Studio 2008 SP1.  Towards the end of the install I see the following error.  The following description doesn't make since as I already have Visual Studio 2008 SP1 and .NET 3.5 SP1.  Could some one point me the right direction towards resolving this issue?

Can't Uninstall SQL Server 2005 Express Tools

I am attempting to install SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Trial and receive the follow error during installation.

"The SQL Server 2005 Express Tools are installed. To continue, remove the SQL Server 2005 Express Tools."

I have used Add or Remove programs to remove all components of SQL Server 2005 Express.  I have even reinstalled the Workstation Tools of SQL Server 2005 just so I could indiviually remove those tools, and then completly removed the SQL 2005 installation.

I have used regedit to search for any instance of SQL Server 2005, there is none.

There is still an entry for SQL Server Mangement Express in my all programs listing.  However trying to launch that program fails with errors, so it is partial still installed.

Can anyone tell me how to wipe out these last bits of SQL Server 2005 Express Tools?  I have tried everything I have found searching this forum to no avail.

Unable to start T-SQL Debugging.  Could not connect to computer '.'. This is usually a temporary error during hostname resolution and means that the local server did not receive a response from an authoritative server.

I'm using Management Studio 2008 with Sql Server 2008 Express.  I can execute queries, but I cannot debug them.  I am a member of the systemadmin role, and my server is using "local system"  as the account.  I am on a domain here at work.

I have seen http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/sqlnetfx/thread/3590e35b-bb2d-45cd-be85-7698b7045be8/, but I am not doing any remote debugging.  I tried running the server under my user name, but still no luck.  I also have my firewall disabled (even though I did enable it and open up the correct ports just-in-case).

It use to work before I uninstalled and re-installed SQLEXPRESS.  What could be the issue?  I've searched everywhere, and so far everything says I should do what I've already tried.  I did have a password change, but changing it several times has not had any effect.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I try to debug queries on the main 2005 sql server, I get:  Cannot execute script.  Additional Information:  Unable to start the Transact-SQL Debugger.  The Transact-SQL Debugger does not support SQL Server 2005 or earlier versions of SQL Server. (SQLEditors).

Moot issue, as I know the reason why this doesn't work.  But queries once-again execute here, but cannot be debugged.

SQL Server2012 SP1 Install Has ngen running continuously and eating up 90% of memory

Two weeks ago I installed the SP1 update for my SQL Server 2012 Express installation.  I am running Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit.  The install took a long time but completed.  I just started noticing that my memory usage has climbed to 90%, which is 10.8 GB, and my CPU usage is always at least 12%.

After using Task Manager and procmon, I found out that ngen.exe is the offending task and appears to be trying to access files that it cannot find.  The odd thing is that I am running the 64 bit version of SQL server and the ngen.exe running is the 32 bit version, and it is running from the v2.0.50727 32 bit Framework directory.

I tried to uninstall SQL Server and it hangs at a spot where ngen.exe is again running and trying to do something with modules in the SQL directory structure.

I have deleted the 32 bit service for the .NET framework and ngen.exe is no longer running, but I cannot get SQL Server uninstalled.  Is there anything I can do to get things back to normal short of doing a clean install of Windows?  Thanks for any assistance.

Most used SQL Server version

I am currently using 2008 R2 Developer. I am wondering if most companies are using 2005, 2008 or 2008 R2 versions? Also are there any statistics for this?

I guess 2012 is quite new, so not everyone has caught up yet, like with Windows 8...

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due

I have an ASP.net application that uses authentication that was working great with SQL Express 2005 and I tried upgrading to 2008.  I uninstalled SQL 2005 and installed SQL 2008 and now I get the error below:

I tried deleting the directory

:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS directory, but that did not help.

Server Error in '/Admin' Application.

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed.

Thank you for not trying to start an argument.

How to get version/build# from SQL install media?

I'm in the process of turning up a new SQL server and I'm trying to find out what the build number is before I install.  I've seen on other installation media that I could access the MediaInfo.xml file on the root of the CD/DVD.  In this case, there is not version listed, nor does it state the build number.

The output I receive from the aforementioned xml file is the following:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<MediaInfo>
  <Properties>
    <Property Id="MediaLayout" Value="Full" />
  </Properties>
</MediaInfo>

Does anybody know of another way to get this info?

There is always a way...
